Permits Required for the Langtang Trek

There are multiple permits that are necessary while trekking the Langtang Valley. These Permits are briefly explained below with the costs.

TIMS Card

In brief, there are three types of TIMS(Trekkers Information Management System). These green, blue and pink cards each signify something. For an individual trekker, a blue card is required with a cost of 20$. For someone who is trekking in a group, it will cost around 10$ for the blue card. Moreover, the pink TIMS card comes for a SAARC national with a cost of only 6$.

Langtang National Park Entry Permit

For any route you take, the moment you step foot in the Langtang National Park, you will be needing the Langtang National Park Entry Permit. This will cost you a total of 30$ excluding 13% VAT( Value Added Tax).

The cost differs if you are a SAARC National, for someone who is a SAARC national, the Langtang National Park Entry Permit comes at a cost of only 15$ excluding VAT. Moreover, the children under the age of 10 are not required permit to trek this region.

For the availability of this permit, you can go to Nepal Tourism Board located in Kathmandu, or you may also get those at the entry point in Bhunche.

Shivapuri National Park Entrance Fee

Some who are trekking enthusiasts, decided to trek all the way from Shivapuri National Park rather than from Syabrubeshi. Thus, for those trekkers, Shivapuri National Park Entrance Fee is required which will cost you 5$ excluding VAT.

In conclusion, these permits and entrance fees will all be managed by the trekking agency if you are trekking with any. 

How long is the hike to Langtang Valley?

The Langtang Valley trek typically takes 10 to 12 days to complete, covering approximately 51 miles (82 kilometers). The duration can vary depending on the chosen itinerary and individual trekking pace.

What will Happen if You Don’t Have A Permit?

Trekking permits are a crucial part of one’s journey in Nepal. There are frequent checkpoints around the trekking trail. These checkpoints require and check your permit. If you fail to show any, you will need to buy the permits with extra payments as a fine. In worst-case scenarios, you may also face charges by the law.
